Plainfield Board OK s Ottawa Street Demolition

Owner gets the nod to demolish 24025 W. Ottawa St.

Days are numbered for a home on Ottawa St.

Village trustees on Monday approved demolition for a home in the Village Green neighborhood at 24025 W. Ottawa St.

The home, built in 1830, will be torn down so the property owner can build a new home on the site.

Village trustee Paul Fay said the house is in his own neighborhood and, after touring it recently with members of the village’s Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), he won’t be sorry to see it go.

“The structural integrity is not worth saving,” Fay said. “It does not have [historic] value.”

Fay said the owner plans to use some of the original timbers to build the new home.

According to village planner Michael Garrigan, the majority of the HPC supports demolition of the home, and none of the neighbors raised objections to tearing it down.
