Plainfield Park District Fires Public Information Coordinator

Marianne Ryan was hired in 2005; her position was eliminated last week.

After reducing part-time employees’ hours to avoid Obamacare insurance requirements, the Plainfield Park District made another cut last week, eliminating the public information coordinator job.

Marianne Ryan had served in the position since 2005. Her role was to promote park district activities and events.

New Interim Director of Communications Doug Booth said Ryan was notified Friday that her job was being eliminated. Executive Director Garrett Peck and Assistant Executive Director Cameron Bettin were both present at the time, Booth said.

“I really can’t tell you much about it at this point,” Booth said, telling Patch he would have to consult with Peck to determine how much information should be released regarding Ryan’s termination.

Ryan’s job was eliminated a month after Booth, who also serves as Plainfield Park District treasurer, was hired. In his new role, Booth served as Ryan’s supervisor.

At the time, Booth told Patch his position was to be temporary, with a 90-day contract and a salary of $5,500 per month, or $66,000 annually. He said it would be up to the park district to determine whether the role would be made permanent.

“Marianne has been doing a good job with what she’s been doing,” Booth told Patch in May. “She’s got a lot of good ideas that I think perhaps weren’t very well listened to.”

Booth, who said he would return Patch’s call after speaking with Peck, did not get back to Patch on Monday afternoon.
