Plainfield Park District Search: Salary Range is from $115K to $150K

The application deadline is May 23.

A screening committee is now accepting applications for a new Plainfield Park District executive director, more than two months after the resignation of Garrett Peck.

Last month, the park district signed off on a $4,900 contract with the Illinois Association of Park Districts (IAPD) to conduct a search for Peck's replacement.

Now, the job has been posted, and the timeline for hiring a new park district chief has been finalized.

According to a brochure advertising the position, the starting salary range for the post is $115,000 to $150,000, higher than the $110,000 Peck was paid. The new hire's salary and benefits will be based on experience and will be negotiated with the board of commissioners, according to the IAPD.

A committee made up of commissioners Mary Kay Ludemann and Janet Silosky, interim park district Executive Director Gene Coldwater, and retired executive director Bott and board attorney Matt Campbell put together the qualifications that are being used by the IAPD in the search.

Qualifications include:
  • Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation, Public Administration or related field. Masters Degree preferred.
  • Preferred 10 years as an Executive Director.
  • Thorough knowledge of public park and recreation operations, as well as park district finance
  • Possess an understanding of the board‐executive director relationship and the ability to cultivate a positive working relationship with all commissioners.
  • The ability to act as an ambassador to the community to resolve any concerns expressed by stakeholders, including users of facilities or parks, neighbors of facilities or parks, and residents.
  • A person of great integrity, honesty, self‐confidence and charisma.
The deadline to apply is May 23. Candidates will be presented to the park board by June 11, and the board will conduct interviews June 14 to June 21, according to a timeline presented by the IAPD. The tentative date of employment for the new executive director is July 21.
