Plainfield Park District Special Meeting Rescheduled

Meeting to discuss personnel is now on Tuesday, May 28.

After abruptly canceling a May 22 special meeting, the Plainfield Park District board of commissioners will meet at 6 p.m Tuesday, May 28, at the park district recreation/administration center, 23729 W. Ottawa St.

The meeting follows the board's decision to make Plainfield village trustee Garrett Peck the district's interim executive director and oust outgoing Executive Director Greg Bott six weeks before his scheduled retirement date.

Complicating matters, another park district staffer, former Superintendent of Planning Cameron Bettin, has a contract to take over Bott's role on July 1.

The May 22 meeting was canceled due to "possible lack of a quorum," Peck told Patch earlier this week. Despite the cancellation, a group of protesters demonstrated in front of the park district office on Wednesday, voicing their disapproval at the hiring of Peck and other recent decisions by the board.

The May 28 meeting will be held to discuss personnel in closed session and take action in open session, according to the meeting notice.

Employee salaries go online

On Friday, the park district also announced that, in accordance with Public Act 097-0609, salaries and compensation for all employees are now posted on the park district website.

"I am excited to announce that the new administration at our Park District has gone above and beyond the legal requirement of publishing public salaries in excess of $75,000 and posted the salaries and benefits of every full-time employee," park board president Peter Hurtado said in a press release.
