Route 126 Exit Off I-55 Closed Tuesday Night

The ramp will reopen at 5 a.m. Wednesday; the closure is required to install pavement detector loops.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has notified Plainfield officials that the southbound Interstate 55 exit to Illinois 126 will be closed from 9 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The closure is needed to install detector loops in the pavement, similar in nature to the work that was completed last week on the ramp from Route 126 on to northbound I-55, village staff engineer Scott Threewitt said in a news release on the closure.

Any idea what they're detecting? Yeah, cars, I get that, but I'm curious why they would need them both on the off and on ramps...

I don't know -- good question. I'll call IDOT tomorrow.
