Route 126/Essington Road Intersection to Get Turn Lane, Traffic Signal

Village board approves contract to do widening, resurfacing work; intersection could be complete by year's end.

The rebuilding of the Route 126/Essington Road intersection to add a turn lane and temporary traffic signals will begin in early October, Plainfield Director of Public Works Allen Persons told the village board Monday night.

At his request, the board approved a $478,630 contract with P.T. Ferro Construction Co. of Joliet for the work. Ferro was one of four companies to vie for the project; its low bid was 6.8 percent below the $513,386 cost estimated by the village consultant Hutchinson Engineering Inc.

"We believe within two months this (intersection) will be constructed and operational," Persons said.
