Sign Up for Camp Early, and Cash In on Price Breaks

The deadline to take advantage of the cheaper prices is May 15.

Attention Plainfield campers (and their parents):

Just 12 days remain for you to take advantage of discounts that trim anywhere from $55 to $88 off the cost of summer camps offered through the Plainfield Park District.

Summer day camp is shaping up to be way more fun than staying home. Campers get to swim at the Ottawa Street Pool, go on field trips, play games, do crafts and participate in wacky theme days.

The district offers three camps, determined by age group, for children ages 5 to 15. The program is divided into five two-week sessions, meeting from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at Boy Scout Park.

Depending on the age of the child and the number of sessions they participate in, costs start at $220 and top out at $355 for Plainfield residents who take advantage of the early bird discounts. After May 15, prices start escalate to anywhere from $275 to $443.75.

For an additional cost, parents can also pay for extended hours from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. so they can drop off their kids before and after work.

In Leadership Camp, kids ages 13 to 15 work with counselors to assist younger campers, picking up valuable leadership skills that look good on college admission forms and job resumes. And older campers get a field trip every day – all for the early bird cost of just $3.31 per hour.

Here's another perk. When you head back to school next fall, you can look forward to the thrill of telling your chums, “I went to park district day camp and all I got was this lousy T-shirt.” Because you’ll be getting one – not that it will be lousy, of course.

A Meet the Counselors Night is set for 6 to 7: 30 p.m. June 1 at the park district's . Camps start June 7.
