A planned Village of Plainfield Committee of the Whole meeting set for Monday has been cancelled, but a special meeting is now slated for 7 p.m. at Village Hall, 14401 W. Lockport St.

The agenda calls a vote on new appointments to the building board of appeals, as well as an intergovernmental agreement between Plainfield and the Will County 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone System board for the funding of a 911 surcharge reallocation.

Also on the agenda:
  • A vote on spending $9,989.75 to purchase 125 pieces of crowd barricades for village events
  • $6,740 for the emergency repair of a water service line near 15410 S. Sunshine Circle

Frankly, these barricades are ridiculous. For years, the good folks of this Village were able to enjoy events like Homecoming with their views unobstructed, but now because of basically one trustee, the population is caged like animals. I'd check and make sure they're not being purchased from some dummy company out of Indiana. Or Chicago...

Really... More barricades? I admit I wasn't at meeting to hear why they're necessary.. But I can think of other things this town needs before spending tax dollars on these. Ugh.

I'd like to see Garrett Peck's resignation added to the agenda.
