Former Village Trustee Robbie Robinson Dead at 84

Funeral services for Robinson, who served on the board from 1974 to 1983, will be Monday.

Lorin "Robbie" Robinson, a Board trustee from 1974 to 1982, died Wednesday at the Lakewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Plainfield.

Born in Monmouth on Jan. 13, 1928, Robinson worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 37 years and retired from the company's Joliet plant in 1983, according to the obituary compiled by the .

While living in Plainfield -- he moved to Redding, Calif., following his retirement but returned to the village in 2001 -- Robinson was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plainfield and an avid amateur radio operator, WB9AUV, who was part of the Joliet Amateur Radio Club.

He was also active in the American Legion, having once served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korean War. He left the military with the rank of sergeant.

"Robbie will be remembered for being a diehard Cubs fan (and) a very faithful man of God, putting others before himself," his obituary said.

He and his late wife Janice raised four children: sons Andy and Charlie and daughters Sue Van Curler and Janis Fox. He's also survived by five grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, 15219 S. Joliet Road. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, 2650 Plainfield Road, Joliet. Interment will be in the Plainfield Township Cemetery.
