New Storm Sewers for Sunnyland Thanks to Fed Grant

The $750,000 should help eliminate the flooding that has plagued the Sunnyland subdivision for years, state Rep. Tom Cross says.

The Sunnyland subdivision in Plainfield Township, which has had severe problems with flooding, will be receiving new storm sewers and rehabilitated ditches thanks to a $750,000 federal grant.

The IKE Disaster Recovery Program grant was secured by the joint efforts of several local and state government entities, according to a release issued by state Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego). Among them, the Will County Stormwater Planning Committee and the Sunnyland Sanitary District.

“This area has been plagued with flooding issues — these efforts will provide relief and piece of mind to area residents when it rains,” Cross said in the release.

The grant application was filed early this year by Joe Hadamick, treasurer for the Sunnyland district.

The funding is part of the $48 million in infrastructure improvement funds announced by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Development and released through the disaster recovery program named for Hurricane Ike. That storm, in 2008, was deemed one of the costliest hurricanes ever to make landfall in the United States.
