Unload Old Chemicals, CFL Bulbs, Other Hazardous Wastes Saturday

A collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Plainfield Public Works Department.

If you're thinking about doing a little spring cleaning this Saturday, the village of Plainfield has you covered as to what to do with all those cleaning chemicals, yard pesticides, old batteries and used motor oil that you need to trash.

A Household Hazardous Waste Collection will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Plainfield Public Works Department, 14400 S. Coil Plus Drive. It's sponsored by the Will County Land Use Department, the village of Plainfield and Conservation Plainfield.

  • Oil-based paints and stains
  • Outdated medication
  • Used oil
  • Used oil filters
  • Old gasoline
  • Paint thinner and solvents
  • Drain cleaner
  • Cleaning products
  • Rechargable batteries
  • Aerosol paints and pesticides
  • Pool chemicals
  • Mercury and items containing mercury
  • Lawn and garden chemicals and fertilizers
  • Used antifreeze
  • Automotive and boat batteries
  • Flourescent light bulbs
  • Compact flourescent light bulbs
  • Driveway sealer

However, you'll need to find other ways to dispose of latex-based paint, fireworks, explosives, agricultural wastes, fire extinguishers, ammunition, radioactive material, institutional wastes, controlled substances, alkaline batteries, business wastes, garbage, tires, smoke detectors, carbon dioxide detectors, medical waste and sharps, gas cylinders and electronics.
