Executive board to discuss proposal this week.

Members of the county board's executive committee are scheduled to discuss a proposal on Thursday that would boost county board members' pay by $5,700, along with increases for other elected officials.

According to a proposal by county board chief of staff Bruce Friefeld, board members' salaries would increase from $23,000 to $28,700 per year, with raises of $700, $750 and $750, respectively, over the next three years, the Herald-News reported.

Meanwhile, Friefeld recommended salaries for the county executive, auditor, circuit court clerk, coroner, county clerk, recorder of deeds and treasurer be increased from $93,116 to $110,000. The plan also calls for a nearly $30,000 raise for the sheriff, from $110,923 to $140,000.

Finance committee chairman Steve Wilhelmi told the Herald-News that some officials have not had a raise in eight years. A 2008 proposal to raise board members' pay to $33,000 was dropped after creating a controversy.
