More Than 10,000 Books at Library Fundraiser Sale

The Friends of the Plainfield Public Library will also be selling CDs, DVDs and other items at the Friday-Saturday event.

There’s nothing like a good book … except a good book at a really good price.

Thousands of titles will be up for grabs this weekend for a buck or less.

The Friends of the used book sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the library, 15025 S. Illinois St., Plainfield.

The sale also will include titles on this year’s reading lists for middle school and high school students, along with used DVDs, CDs and books on cassette.

“I would love to have $5,000 raised this year,” said Barb Ebeling, president of Friends of the Plainfield Public Library.

More than 10,000 books have been collected for this year’s sale, she said. That’s up from last year, when $3,500 was raised and went toward the purchase of a large-scale scanner and a printer.

Proceeds from this year’s sale will go toward library programs and equipment, she said.

Prices are 25 cents for children’s books; $1 for hardcover books; 25 cents for paperbacks or five for $1; 50 cents for oversized nonfiction paperbacks; and $1 for DVDs, CDs and books on cassette.

Every public, private, and home school teacher will be able to select one free book.

On Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m., shoppers may fill a library bag with paperbacks and pay just $3.

But Friday is when things get hopping.

“Friday morning is busy because people like to see what we have,” library volunteer John Gossett said while sorting books at the library recently.

Books are sorted by topic, with more categories this year. Others are sorted by author.

The sale will be held in the library's lower level.
