Bad News, Kids -- It's Back to School on Friday

District 202 officials are urging parents to drive their children if the kids normally walk to school and to escort their children to bus stops.

Snow break's over -- it's back to school Friday for Plainfield School District 202 students.

District officials say they know conditions will not be "ideal," but the weather's not likely to change much for the foreseeable future, spokesman Tom Hernandez said in a news release issued Thursday afternoon.

The decision was based on information from Plainfield village and Will County officials that all roads will have been plowed by Friday morning, he said.

Parking will be more limited at some district schools because of snow piles, but there will be enough space to accommodate staff and students who drive, Hernandez said in the release. Over the weekend, snow will be removed from school parking lots and sidewalks, he said.

The district is encouraging parents to drive their children to school if they normally would walk, particularly if walking involves going along the side of a road, he said. Also, parents should escort their children to us stops because there will be reduced visibility at intersections, he said.
