Board Votes to Extend Plainfield School Year Again

After a snow day and flood-related school closures, students will have to return for two extra days this month.

It's finally starting to feel like summer, but the school year isn’t over for District 202 students — and just got longer.

In March, a snow day prompted the board to extend the school year by a day and a half. After two flood-related school closures in April, the board has again voted to push back the last day of school.

Now, students and teachers will have to return after Memorial Day for a full day of school on Tuesday, May 28, plus another full day on Wednesday, May 29. The last day of school will be a half-day on May 30.

The additional days aren't optional — by law, all Illinois school districts must have at least 176 instructional school days per year.

District 202 campuses were closed Thursday, April 18 and Friday, April 19, thanks to flooded roads and related power outages.
