Dad Home on Leave From Afghanistan Surprises Kids

Plainfield resident Keith Chzrustowski, an active duty U.S. Army captain, gave his kids a day they'll never forget on Friday.

kindergartner Paige Chzrustowski got the surprise of her young life Friday morning.

That's when her dad, U.S. Army Capt. Keith Chzrustowski, a Plainfield resident home on leave from Afghanistan, surprised her in the middle of class. Southbury Principal Lindsay Allen said Keith arrived to the area Thursday night and was able to give Paige and her little brother, Ryan, a surprise homecoming. Mom, Sara, knew her husband was heading home and was able to keep the secret from the kids, Allen said.

Keith passed out American flags to teacher Jill Carlson's class along with red, white and blue necklaces. Paige and Ryan got an extra special treat when they learned their next stop was Disney World. Friday was Paige's last day of school, Allen said, and the family will spend the next couple of months together before Keith heads back to Afghanistan.
