District 202's Facilities Director Takes Quincy Job

Joel Murphy has been hired as Quincy School District 172's business manager, starting July 1.

's director of facilities administrator is leaving at the end of the school year to take a new position with Quincy School District 172.

Joel Murphy, who's worked for the Plainfield district for less than two years, will become Quincy's business manager starting July 1.

The deal comes with a substantial raise for Murphy, who was hired by Plainfield at $104,221 in June 2010 and will be paid $125,000 under the three-year contract with Quincy, according to a story in the Quincy Herald-Whig. A buyout provision in the pact says he'll receive $82,000 should the school board want to replace him before June 30, 2015.

Murphy was hired by District 202 in May 2010 to be director of facilities, a new position created "as part of the district's deficit reduction plan, which called for combining two positions, and to improve operational efficiencies," the district Web site said.

Murphy's job was to "plan, direct, coordinate and oversee the cleaning, repairing and maintenance of all district facilities and grounds. He will also provide primary oversight of all life safety and construction projects," the site said.

Prior to coming to Plainfield, Murphy was Prairie Grove District 46's assistant superintendent for business and finance since 2007. He worked for Oswego School District 308 from 1998 to 2002 as its assistant superintendent for planning, technology and operations and assistant superintendent for business affairs and treasure.

Murphy also held in similar positions the Yorkville and St. Charles school districts and for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County in Glen Ellyn.
