Beekeeper Offers Insight into Life of Bees at July 9 Green Village Program

The “Year of the Bee” continues with an interactive presentation by a professional beekeeper at the July 9 Green Village program. The free event begins at 7 p.m. at the Plainfield Public Library.

Several of the monthly Green Village programs have been devoted to the role bees play in our environment and highlighting current threats to bee populations worldwide.  Beekeeper Marge Trocki will provide an overview of beekeeping, including a demonstration of a real hive (minus the bees). Ms. Trocki will explain the various stages of a bee’s life, various duties of bees in the colony, and how they work together to survive. The program will also offer insight into how honey is harvested from the hive.

The Green Village Lecture Series is a partnership between the Village of Plainfield and the Plainfield Public Library District to host monthly workshops with an environmental focus. Events are held the second Monday of each month, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Plainfield Public Library.  To register to attend an event, visit http://il.evanced.info/plainfield/evanced/eventcalendar.asp.
