Prom Night Parent Seminar at Plainfield East

Plainfield East High School will present a “Prom Night Parent Seminar” at 7 p.m. April 12 in the school auditorium, 12001 S. Naperville Road, Plainfield.

This special program is free and open to the entire District 202 community. Middle and high school parents and their students are especially encouraged to attend. Reservations are not required.

The event is designed to help parents and students understand the dangers and consequences of teen drinking and driving, especially during significant events like prom.

The evening will feature presentations from several speakers:

  • Keynote speaker Dr. William Watson – Dr. Watson is medical director of trauma services at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, Illinois. He will discuss brain research and the effects of alcohol on the teenage brain.
  • AAIM (Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists) Deputy Director Rita Kreslin – Kreslin’s 19-year-old son died in a drunk driving accident while he was at college.
  • Josh Lorusso – Josh crashed his car at age 18 after drinking with friends, killing his 17-year-old passenger.
  • Onofrio Lorusso – Josh’s father brings awareness to the dangers of underage drinking.
  • Plainfield Interim Police Chief John Konopek – Chief Konopek will discuss the legal consequences of underage drinking for both parents and teens. Konopek will also answer questions, and attendees will see a video of the Operation Prom Night assembly that PEHS students will have taken part in on April 8.

 Everyone who attends will be entered into a raffle for a gift certificate for an area restaurant.
