Fast Cat 5K is Saturday in Plainfield; Road Closures Start Early

Event benefits Plainfield North High School track and field.

Runners and walkers will be out in force around Plainfield North High School this Saturday for the Fast Cat 5K. The event, which benefits the PNHS track and field teams, will consist of two races and kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday, March 30.

Due to the large number of participants expected, Plainfield police are advising drivers to expect increased traffic and temporary road closures in and around PNHS.

The first race, the Fast Cat 1 Mile Kids Run, starts at 8 a.m. on the property of PNHS and will not affect the adjacent roadways, according to police.

The second race is the 5K/10K/2 x 5K relay run, which starts at 8:45 a.m. and involves two laps of the course route. This race begins at PNHS and heads north on 248th Avenue to Millennium Parkway, heading east on Millennium to Champion Drive and a bike path before exiting on 119th Street. From there, the route heads west on 119th Street to 248th Avenue, then heads back south to PNHS.

The following roads will be temporarily closed beginning at 8:15 a.m. until the runners/walkers have cleared the area:

  • 248th Avenue from Winterberry Lane to Champion Drive
  • 119th Street from Millennium Parkway to Heritage Meadows Drive
  • Van Dyke Road from Whispering Trails Drive to 119th Street
  • Millennium Parkway from 248th Avenue to Champion Drive
  • Champion Drive from Millennium Parkway to Champion Court

All roads will be reopened at the conclusion of the race around 10:30 a.m. Some roadways may reopen earlier, police said.

Parking will be restricted on Millennium Parkway from 248th Avenue to Champion Drive and Champion Drive from Millennium Parkway to Champion Court. Event parking is available at PNHS.

For event info or to register, click here. Registration fees for the 5K and 10K are $35 each for individuals and $50 for group registration for the 2 x 5K relay. Students will pay a discounted rate of $20 for the 5K and 10K. Cost for the kids fun run (1 mile) is $10 for kids ages 5 to 10.
