Final Exams Consistent at All Four High Schools Under Plan

The Plainfield School District 202 Board will review and possibly approve the plan Tuesday, prior to the seating of the new board members.

The Plainfield School District 202 administration plans to recommend to the school board a new way to weigh final exams that is consistent among all four high schools.

The district is proposing that all semester exams are worth 20 percent of the student’s overall grade starting in the fall, district spokesman Tom Hernandez said. The 20 percent benchmark would be for students of all grades and for all subjects, he said.

The school board last year asked district administration to come up with a consistent plan for finals so that all schools have an equal grading system.

Depending on which high school students attend in District 202, a final exam can be worth anywhere between 10 percent and 20 percent of the students’ final grade, a decision that was reached a few years ago by the high schools’ principals.

But board members have said they hope a clear grading system emerges that is equitable and consistent across the district.
