Improvements Ahead for Local Schools Thanks to Donations

Among the projects to be undertaken is a new mural at Bonnie McBeth Learning Center and new wall pads at Kennedy Middle School.

Thanks to the generosity of parent-teacher groups, athletics supporters and young volunteers, several schools in will get a boost of school spirit.

The Parent Teacher Organization at the raised $2,500 to have a mural painted in the main hallway of the preschool. The mural, to be done by Kevin Luthardt, will honor the school’s namesake, Bonnie McBeth, and her love of children’s literature and will promote reading. McBeth served as a kindergarten teacher in 1951 and later introduced the reading recovery program to elementary students.

At , the PTA raised $1,840 to replace worn-out gym wall pads with new ones featuring the Kennedy logo. In addition to protecting students from hitting the wall, the logo will promote school spirit.

The stadium press box will get a new custom sign with its school logo thanks to a nearly $3,000 donation from the school’s Athletic Boosters.

is also slated for enhancements as part of a fall Eagle Scout project. New landscaping is expected to be installed later this year at the front entrance. Flowers, bushes, ornamental grasses and mulch will be planted as part of the beautification project.
