New 'Tentative' Last Day of School for Plainfield

By law, students must make up missed days.

After two more days off this week due to extreme cold, District 202 schools once again have a revised school year calendar.

Thursday afternoon, the district announced that the new tentative last day of school is May 30. May 29 will be a full day, and May 30 will be a half-day.

The changes do not affect the dates for eighth-grade promotion ceremonies or high school graduation, according to Community Relations Director Tom Hernandez.

Originally, the last day was tentatively set for Friday, May 23, but that changed earlier this month when extreme cold forced school closings on Jan. 6 and 7.

Hernandez reminded parents that there are still two more months left to winter, which could mean more snow days.

Under state law, schools must build at least five emergency days into their school year calendars. After that, districts can apply for an "Act of God" day — a day when conditions pose a risk to student safety or health. "Act of God" days do not need to be made up.
