Plainfield D202 Sells Land to YMCA for $1 Million

Land once considered for a new elementary school instead will be sold the C.W. Avery YMCA.

The Board of Education decided on Monday night to sell 10.3 acres on Wallin Drive, next to Ira Jones Middle School, for $1 million. In 2002, District 202 purchased 62 acres property for $2.02 million, and Jones Middle School sits on 25 of those acres, reports the Chicago Tribune.

"We don't need the land anymore," school board president Roger Bonuchi said, and it's an ideal place for the YMCA to expand.
