Plainfield D202 Sells Land to YMCA for $1 Million

Ideal spot for YMCA expansion, says board president.

Land once considered for a new elementary school instead will be sold the C.W. Avery YMCA.

The Board of Education decided on Monday night to sell 10.3 acres on Wallin Drive, next to Ira Jones Middle School, for $1 million. In 2002, District 202 purchased 62 acres property for $2.02 million, and Jones Middle School sits on 25 of those acres, reports the Chicago Tribune.

"We don't need the land anymore," school board president Roger Bonuchi said, and it's an ideal place for the YMCA to expand.

Tim, THANK YOU for the reminder of SO MANY poor judgements by the "old guard" You are correct, we re elect the same people who make these very poor decisions. Most glaring, just look at RT. 59 and the lack of commercial development. Or, take a look at RT. 59 and notice all the banks & other brick and mortars who produce ZERO sales tax revenue.

Ron, I get a weird feeling that Moira Dunn is looking into that too.

I would urge people to start filing FOIA requests to find out who brokered this deal. The silence is alarming!
