Plainfield East Student Headed to National Poetry Final

Raphael Mathis recently won the state Poetry Out Loud competition.

Plainfield East High School senior Rapheal Mathis will compete at the end of April in the national Poetry Out Loud: Poetry Recitation Contest in Washington DC after winning the state contest March 8, according to information on the District 202 website.

The state competition included 16 students chosen from an initial field of 6,000 students. If Mathis should win the national competition he stands to win a $20,000 scholarship.
