District 202 has hired former Lincoln-Way Community High School District 201 building and grounds director Paul Gonzalez as the new director of facilities.

Gonzalez, who replaces Don Briggs, started Jan. 14. His hiring was approved Monday by the board of education.

According to a press release issued by the district, Gonzalez started his career in 1979 as a part-time sweeper with Elmhurst School District 205, and eventually worked his way up to maintenance and custodial supervisor in 1988.

From 1991 to this year, Gonzalez worked at Lincoln-Way, overseeing facilities and operations for the four-high school district.

Did Don Briggs retire?

I hope he does a better job then brigs did last summer. The dandelions took over almost all of the grass at Lincoln elementary on Meadow Dr. When we asked one of the grounds keepers about them, his response was that there was no money for weed control! People in Liberty Grove were complaining about how much money they pay in taxes, and how little we get back in upkeep maintenance! So we will keep an close eye on Mr. Gonzalez, and the school boards spending habits from now on!
