John F. Kennedy Middle school will host its annual “Plainfield Poetry Showcase” from 6-9 p.m. Friday, March 14, in the school gym, 12350 S. Essington Road, Plainfield.

The special event is free, and open to the community. Renowned Chicago poets Harold Green and Lawrence “Binkey” Tolefree will host the program.

The event will feature poetry written and presented by middle and high school students, alumni, parents and District 202 staff.

The evening will also feature a special segment in which students will present original poetry and videos reflecting on their visit to the Illinois Holocaust Museum.

Team Plainfield, featuring student-poets from both JFK and Plainfield East High School was started by JFK 8th grade language arts teacher Jennifer Gruca in 2011.

Team Plainfield has participated in and done well at several suburban and regional Spoken Word poetry competitions.
