Plainfield Schools, Library Open Wednesday

After two days of subzero temperatures, District 202 schools will reopen.

After their winter break was extended by two days thanks to the deep freeze, Plainfield students will head back to school Wednesday.

The district made the announcement Tuesday afternoon, sending the following message:

"All District 202 schools and facilities will be open and classes will resume tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8th.

Although the temperature is expected to be higher, it will still be very cold tomorrow. Please be prepared for the possibility that buses may run a little late because of bad road conditions and slower traffic. Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately to wait for the buses, or, if you prefer, drive them to school.

Also, we have been plowing and salting our parking lots and shoveling our sidewalks for several days. However, not all sidewalks will be cleared by tomorrow, especially those adjacent to municipal streets. As well, snow may continue to blow and drift. We will do our best to provide safe access, but please plan accordingly if your children usually walk to school.

Thank you for your patience and understanding these last two days. We especially want to thank our grounds, maintenance and custodial crews who have been working almost around the clock for several days to make sure our schools are safe for our students and staff tomorrow.

Have a great night, and welcome back."

Library also reopens

The Plainfield Public Library will also reopen Wednesday at 9 a.m.

"
Please bear with us while we check in literally thousand of items from the past three days. We look forward to getting back to normal," said a post on the library Facebook page.
