SD 202 Has Fingers Crossed on Grand Prairie Grant

Money would fund majority of $860,000 cost of upgrading and replacing the school's HVAC system.

has applied for a state grant to help offset a future hefty repair bill.

John Prince, assistant superintendent for business and operations, said the district believes the grant request for $740,000 through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity will be funded. The grant application has been tentatively accepted.

According to the grant stipulations, the money must be used for heavy infrastructure work, and it would go towards the upgrade and replacement of the HVAC system at Grand Prairie Elementary School, 3300 Caton Farm Road. The total cost of the project is about $860,000, so the grant should take care of the majority of the work.

Prince said that the district would have needed to spend the money on the heating and cooling units at the school in the next year or two, and the grant would help free up other funds for additional construction, improvement or renovation projects districtwide.
