You don't have to like March Madness. You don't even have to like basketball. But if you like -- and especially like when it gets publicity for being the No. 1 suburb -- you must vote in Comcast's 2012 Battle of the Fans Madness contest.

is one of just 16 schools chosen for the competition, based on the excitement and enthusiasm shown by the student cheering section when the Plainfield East-Naperville North game was shown as Comcast's CN100 Game of the Week on Feb. 11.

Just like in March Madness, the field will be narrowed from 16 to eight by the end of this week so casting your vote by March 18 is imperative if Plainfield's going to survive into the next round.

Could it be more simple?

Once you cast your vote, you'll see where Plainfield is in the ranking. As of 10:20 p.m. Monday, PEHS was in second place with 12.2 percent of the vote but lagging far behind Warren Township High School's Blue Crew, which had 60.2 percent of the approximately 43,383 votes cast. Warren is located in Gurnee.

For heaven's sake, don't let us get beaten by a town whose only claim to fame is a theme park and a giant shopping mall! A town so far north they might as well be in Wisconsin and are probably all Packers' fans! That would be humiliating.

So, you know your mission. Cast your vote, and make sure everyone you know does the same.

We'll report back on the results Monday morning and let everyone know if Plainfield will be moving on to Round 2.
