Snow Day Aftermath: Plainfield Board Votes to Extend School Year

Students will have to return after Memorial Day for one last half-day of school.

Plainfield School District students will pay for that snow day.

A March 5 snowstorm prompted District 202 officials to cancel school — a good call, considering Mother Nature dumped nearly nine inches of snow on the Plainfield area that day.

But the unexpected day off will mean a slightly longer wait for summer break. On Monday, the District 202 Board of Education voted to amend the school calendar to make up for lost time.

Now, Friday, May 24, which was tentatively scheduled to be a half-day of student attendance, will be a full day. Students will also have to return to school on Tuesday, May 28 — the day after Memorial Day — for a half-day of classes.
