Plainfield Village Trustee James Racich surprised Crystal Lawns Elementary School Principal Dr. Kathy Baxter on May 28 with an official Proclamation from Mayor Michael Collins, making May 28, 2014 "Dr. Kathy Baxter Day" in Plainfield.

Racich read the Proclamation in recognition of Baxter's retirement this year. She has worked her entire 40-year education career at Crystal Lawns, teaching fifth grade her first 19 years, and has served as principal the last 21 years.

Anyone lucky enough to have had children attend Crystal Lawns and have Dr. Baxter as a teacher or principal, knows how much she will be missed. Dr. Baxter is a one in a million educator and as a parent I truly appriciate everything she did for my children. Good luck in retirement!

Congratulations Dr Baxter. And totally agree with above poster Erica, she is an amazing Principal and educator. Good luck in retirement and I hope you come back and visit. We will miss you.

That school needs a renovation so bad, walking in it last year gave me flashbacks of the 70s.

Congratulations, Dr. Baxter! You were an asset to this School District, to Crystal Lawns, to our children. Your retirement is going to leave some VERY large shoes to fill and a tough act to follow. Much love, The Robinsons - Nick, Nancy, Trevor and Colin. (PS I still have to pull those photos of the days when you and Rhonda were Girl Scout leaders with your knee length sweat socks and shorts, hee hee)
