Plainfield Police to Play Hoops Against Indian Trail Staff to Benefit "Shop with Cop" Program

Plainfield Police Department officers will try to best Indian Trail Middle School staff members on the basketball court on Friday, December 10, 2010 to benefit needy District 202-area families.

The police department hopes to maintain its undefeated record and post its third straight win against District 202 middle schools when the showdown begins at 7 p.m. in the school gymnasium, 14723 South Eastern Avenue, Plainfield.

The police versus Indian Trail basketball game will benefit the police department's "Shop with a Cop" holiday program.

The police department is 2-0, playing their first "Shop With a Cop" charity basketball game against the staff at Ira Jones Middle School in 2008, and then against the staff at John F. Kennedy Middle School last year.

The Indian Trail PTO will also sell concessions during the basketball game.  Proceeds from the concessions will benefit the Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry.  Pennies and spare change will also be collected throughout the night to benefit an Indian Trail seventh grade student fighting leukemia.

Tickets for the game can be purchased in advance for $2 each or will be sold at the door for $3 each.  Children five and under are free.

Proceeds from the ticket sales will help to support a student or students from Indian Trail who are in good academic and behavioral standing but who may not be able to afford a holiday that most are used to.

The program will benefit students at 16 Plainfield-area public schools.

Due to overwhelming need, the Plainfield Police Department has divided the program into two days.

Middle school aged students or younger will "shop with a cop" at the Plainfield Target store on Route 59 and 127th Street at 9 a.m. on Monday, December 20, 2010.  High school students will "shop with a cop" also at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Meijer store on Route 59 & 135th Street.
