Breaking It Down: After scored 13 seconds into its game versus Plainfield South there was no looking back on its way to a 35-19 victory. The 77-yard touchdown run by Jay Roberts energized the home crowd, yet was able to creep back into the contest with strong defensive play. Plainfield South cut the Tigers' lead to 14-9 by halftime and may have been able to come back and win the game had it not been for the six penalties, including two that voided Cougar touchdowns.
Patch’s MVP: Jay Roberts, Plainfield North. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound running back was the definition of a workhorse on Friday evening. Roberts rushed for 178 yards on 25 carries. It was obvious that quarterback Kurt Palandech was able to scramble easily on play action passes with the defense zoning in on Roberts.
Plainfield North Stat Pack: Kurt Palandech completed 3-of-7 passes for 40 yards. He also rushed for 71 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown, not including what would have been a 72-yard touchdown run had it not been called back for a holding penalty. Brett Fox earned two of the three Tiger sacks. Trent Cavin rushed for 66 yards on 15 attempts.
Plainfield South Stat Pack: The Cougars' backfield as a whole rushed for 191 yards on 27 carries. Ricky Luna completed 9-of-21 passes for 31 yards and a touchdown. Mattew Imburgia made both of his field goal attempts. Plainfield South was 0-for-2 while going for it on fourth down, while allowing the Tigers to move the chains on its final down on both of its attempts.
Quotable I: "We do have a talented backfield, but I think the real scare is the big boys up front," Palandech said. "They're [more than 200 pounds], and pushing people around up there. It's always nice to run behind people like that."
Quotable II: "Our defense stumbled early, but they played strong and came back tough," Plainfield South varisty head football coach Ken Bublitz said. "In order for them to keep energized, the ball needs to get in the end zone. And I don't think we did a good enough job of that."
Team Records: Plainfield North is 2-1 and 1-0 in the Southwest Prairie Conference. Plainfield South is 1-2 and 0-1 in the Southwest Prairie Conference.
