Learn the Basics of Lacrosse at Free Clinic

The program will introduce children ages 8 to 14 to the sport in advance of a new lacrosse league that begins Sept. 14.

If you think your child might be interested in playing lacrosse but you're just not sure, the 's free Lacrosse Clinic on Sept. 10 may be the easiest way to find out.

The program will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Northwest Community Park, located on 127th Street, just west of U.S. 30. It will introduce the sport to players ages 8 to 14 and their parents, according to a park district media release.

All equipment will be provided by New Wave Lacrosse. Participants must be pre-registered through the park district, citing program #43214A1.

The clinic is a prelude to the park district’s fall Lacrosse League (program #43200A1), which runs from Sept. 14 to Oct. 22 at Northwest Community Park. Practices will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and games will be played between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays.

The player fee is $150 for residents and $205 for non-residents. A practice/game jersey is included in the price. Rental equipment will be available through New Wave Lacrosse for an additional $50 and includes helmet, shoulder pads, gloves, elbow pads, and stick.

Groups will be divided by age and skill level. The league for ages 8 to 10 will be instructional in nature. The league for 11- and 12-year-olds will emphasize skills and mechanics as well as the competitive side of the game. The league for 13- and 14-year-olds will not only emphasize skills, mechanics and competition, but also strategy and more intricate aspects of the game.
