Lockport Sweeps Up Plainfield Central Cross Country Invite Titles

Wildcat Invite features some strong showings from Plainfield Central and Plainfield East runners.

With over 700 cross country runners on hand, tents propped up and a beautiful Saturday afternoon as the backdrop, the setting couldn't have been much better for Saturday's 18-team Plainfield Central Wildcat Invite.

Lockport's David Sajdak had the best time of all runners at 15:18 over the 3-mile course (a pace of 5:06 per mile). Megan O'Brien, also from Lockport, had the top girls time at 18:10 (a pace of 6:03 per mile).

"I was pleased with our team today," Plainfield Central coach Steve Lawrence said. "We had 12 boys who had never run three miles outside of practice before. Everyone set a personal record today, and every time you can do that, it's a good race, even if you don't win. But winning isn't bad either."

In the girls varsity race, Plainfield Central's Emily Vihnanek took fifth place. Plainfield East's Elizabeth DeSantiago finished 54th.

Plainfield Central finished fifth as a team.

"Our girls had a good start to the season," Plainfield Central girls coach Jenna Zayid said. "I'm very proud of our girls. We can only get better and stronger from here."

In the boys freshman/sophomore race, Plainfield Central's Johny Principato finished eighth and Brad Anderson was 14th. Plainfield East's Steven Kosnick finished 51st.

In the girls freshman/sophomore race, Plainfield Central's Kim Martin took 13th.
