Plainfield North's Bibbs Headed to Colorado State -- For Now

Rams coach Steve Fairchild says the running back reminds him of Marshall Faulk, hints Kapri Bibbs' stay in Fort Collins could be a short one.

Kapri Bibbs rushed for 2,654 yards and scored 38 touchdowns in a record-setting senior season at . He signed a national letter of intent on Wednesday to play college football at Colorado State.

And, already, his next coach is wondering if his stay in Fort Collins will be short-lived.

“Kapri Bibbs out of the Chicago area was very, very highly recruited and Chicago Offensive Player of the Year,” Colorado State coach Steve Fairchild said in a news conference to announce the signing of the Rams’ 27 new football recruits. “Set all sorts of records, 520 yards in a game. Kapri (Bibbs) thinks he is coming out early for the NFL; he thinks he’ll be here a couple years.

“He kind of reminds me, body type and the way he moves, a little bit like Marshall Faulk. He has that kind of suddenness.”

Bibbs led Plainfield North to a 7-3 record and a three-way tie for first place in the Southwest Prairie Conference. The Tigers advanced to the Class 7A playoffs before being ousted in a 51-12 loss to Glenbard West.

He was named Offensive MVP in the Southwest Prairie Conference and ESPN Chicago.com Player of the Year.

Several other high school athletes publicly have announced their collegiate plans and/or signed letters of intent. Following is a brief rundown:

  • Cody Lopez, Plainfield North, 6-1, 215, linebacker. Central Michigan.
  • Dondre Adams, Plainfield South, 5-9, 175, running back. Grand Valley State.
  • Alex Flores, Plainfield South, 6-0, 195, wide receiver/defensive back. McKendree University.
  • Chelsea Oshita, Plainfield Central, girls bowling. McKendree University.
