Vergo Aims to Put 'Voom' in Plainfield East Volleyball

26-year-old social studies teacher recently named as Bengals' new boys volleyball coach.

Aggressive.

In a word, that describes the style of boys volleyball Dan Vergo wants to see become Plainfield East's trademark.

Vergo, a 26-year-old social studies teacher, recently was named as the Bengals' new head coach. He follows in the footsteps of Sara Thomas, who stepped down to focus on her responsibilities in the dean's office.

Thomas will remain on as Plainfield East's girls volleyball coach.

"My style of coaching is pretty typical of the style played in the area," Vergo said. "I prefer an aggressive (style) with a focus on solid fundamentals."

"Dan (Vergo) is excited about the opportunity to take over the boys volleyball program at Plainfield East and to continue the foundations that have been established," East athletic director Tim Torkelson said in a news release.
