Volleyball and Mud, What's Not to Love?

The new event will be part of the village's Riverdays festival, a fundraiser for the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation.

Slimy mud, competetive volleyball and fire hydrant showers. If this is your idea of fun, mark Sept. 10 on your calendar.

Not only is that the day of the second annual festival, it marks the debut of the Mud Volleyball Tournament, being sponsored by .

The tournament, which starts at 1 p.m., is set to be a “double elimination” bracket, although that could change depending on number of people who register, organizers say.

Teams of six to eight must donate $125 to participate and no players under 16 are allowed. The first-place team wins half the pot, up to a maximum of $500, and the second-place gets a quarter of the pot, up to $250.

And don't worry about having to go home dirty. Fire hydrant showers will get rid of the mess that players pick up, organizers say.

All proceeds will benefit the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation, which is sponsoring the daylong festival that runs from noon to 10 p.m., with children's activities ending at 5 p.m.

Checks made out to the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation can be dropped off or mailed to Bart Homes, 14200 U.S. 30, Plainfield, 60544. Cash is also acceptable.
