Plainfield Police Department Opens Cooling Center

A heat advisory is in effect until Friday night.

With Will County under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Friday, the Plainfield Police Department, 14300 S. Coil Plus Dr., has been opened as a cooling center. The cooling center will remain open until the heat advisory expires. Anyone requesting use of the cooling center may arrive at the police department in person or call the non-emergency number at 815-436-2341, unless the situation dictates the use of 9-1-1.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, with heat indices between 103-109 degrees, police said.

A heat advisory means a period of hot weather is expected, which may create heat-related illnesses. In a press release, Plainfield police reminded residents it is vitally important to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

Police also urge residents to make an effort to check the well being of elderly relatives and neighbors.

Plainfield police offered these tips for beating the heat: Take the appropriate amount of precautions such as remaining hydrated, spending a minimal amount of time outdoors, avoiding any strenuous activities and dressing appropriately.

Children and pets should never be left in unattended motor vehicles, which may become life threatening in minutes when temperatures are expected to this magnitude.
