There is a enormous nuclear disaster unfolding in Japan since the Fukushima-Diachi Nuclear Power Plant was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami on 3/11/2011. Most people are not aware of what has been happening in Japan and except for a few innocuous news clips, assume everything is fine.
The reality of the situation in Fukushima is anything but fine. According to reliable sources, including TEPCO, owner of the plant, there has been a meltdown of at least 3 fuel cores into the earth below the plant and has either breached the aquifer and/or is in the ocean:

Dangerous radiation is riding the jet stream and radioactive water is being dumped into the Pacific Ocean, thus contaminating the food chain, starting with the algae and plankton which provides food for the fish which in turn is consumed by humans. Radiation has been found in all bluefin tuna samples taken off of the California coast and the salmon fishing industry is in trouble.
The situation at the Fukushima-Diachi plant in Japan seems to grow more ominous by the minute with no end in sight. Many are asking for UN intervention since Japan has refused to offer of international aid.
Despite what the nuclear industry and its proponents have claimed, nuclear power is neither green, clean nor safe. The supporters of nuclear power have even gone so far as to claim that a human being receives more radiation from a banana than what's has been released from Fukushima.
This is beyond reckless and a complete distortion of truth and reality, but there are new plants to be built and that translates into money, lots of money.
The time has come to demand UN intervention in Japan and to dismantle and decommission all nuclear power plants. To quote Einstein ".. nuclear power is one hell of a way to boil water.."
As a result of the ongoing nuclear disaster in Japan, Germany has begin to decommission all of its nuclear power plants by 2022 and will focus on the real safe, clean and green renewable energy:
