The Plainfield Fire Prevention District will kick off Fire Prevention Week with an open house from noon to 3 p.m. at Station 2, 23806 W. 135th St. The day's events include a children's firefighter challenge, child safety seat inspections, station tours and more. Click for details.
Meanwhile, the Plainfield Park District will host its annual Dirt Jam at Van Horn Woods East, featuring MTB and BMX riders of all ages. The event is from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Finally, families can meet Darth Vader and take part in the fun and games at the Plainfield Public Library's "Star Wars Reads" Day from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Library, 15025 S. Illinois St.
