Ha! Like property values in Shorewood/Plainfield/Joliet area aren't beat up enough without dailyRead More protests by the LA RAZA? I thought I read some sh*t oozing out Holder's pie hole a while back about something similar. He was whining that the burbs are not diversified enough and of course that isn't right. This entire regime is completely lawless and out of control. I swear I never believed in Chem Trails and all that other gibberish but I'm not so sure these days. We as a people have become so complacent, we just let everything go by. I recall when gas for the first time hit $2 bucks a gallon. The country was calling for Bush's head on a platter. Nowadays? People must be on heavy drugs or something. Have you seen these ILLEGALS registering for high school claiming to be 17 yet don't look a day under 45? Nothing the schools can do because these ILLEGALS have no information, no records. They are bringing in serious diseases that we in the US have never seen before. Just what we want, our teenage daughters schooling with some old pedophile pretending to be 17. What choice do these communities & schools have? They will lose all the money they are supposed to get unless they allow these Illegals move on in. What are they saying 90% ++ of ILLEGALS that cross over never show up for any sort of court hearing. They don't want to come here to live and contribute and pay taxes! They just want to come here and disappear into the night and be supported by those of us working 3 part time jobs and paying taxes. Sad, sad state of affairs. I feel terrible for the kids that will survive us. What's it going to be like for them? Even the demo-commie states don't want anything to do with these people. They already come here and changed our culture to resemble theirs more than what ours was once. I don't think we've seen nothing yet!

"Aimed @ college aged women"- this stuff is cheap looking, expensive sweatshirts andRead More sweatpants worn by fat ugly housewives trying to look young and hip. If Joliet is getting a store the fad is already over.

Isn't that Joliet anyway? Why can't they get locations correct
Vicky Polito June 9, 2014 at 08:13 am
No, Alex, this one is the B&N at 127th and Rt. 59, not the one by the Joliet Mall.

Any store that is retail is better than a vacant store.

This is good. I have several meetings a month that take place in different area Panera cafes andRead More I've always thought their foods and treats were better than some other fast options. I hope that maybe they can improve their coffee over time, too. It is not bad, but to me it's their weakest item. Kudos to them for thinking and acting in ways to evolve in positive ways their business and the away-from-home dining in general.

It took Tyree Johnson 22 years to figure out that he was only making minimum wage- not te sharpestRead More guy around, is he?
Lee Jacobsen July 1, 2014 at 10:52 pm
Want more than minimum wage? Grow a spine and ask your manager for a raise. It helps to give a fewRead More reasons. Having the govt establish a minimum wage is just govt intervention into the business world. Don't like the wage, what are unions for??? Find a job that pays more...why does the govt have to negotiate wages? Can't stand working for wages? Start your own business, and find out what real work is like....

The key is to not buy ANYTHING that is made in China that your pet eats. Read the labels! Petco,Read More Meijer, Target and even Walmart sell made in USA dog products. If you buy the cheap Chinese garbage then eventually it will negatively affect your pet.

@ Frank - Is everyone who has a drink or two at a bar - a sports bar or any other type - aRead More "drunken hooligan?" Of course there's no place for ignorant behavior, but having a few screens that show baseball or hockey games doesn't necessarily translate into lawlessness.

I, for in, super excited about this place. In a clean eater, and getting a good meal (organic,Read More locally produced, minimally processes) is hard to find. Peter Rubi is a revelation. There's clearly a community of like-minded people. And it's on the way home from the Y? I'm intrigued... Gotta hear more!!

The pendulum has swung the other way. I remember the early 1970's was a booming time for theseRead More "shopping centers." Meanwhile, the privately-owned business in the small towns were suffering as a result. When it is convenient to not have to leave one's home, well, one does not leave the same. The internet, while it is so handy, has killed retail businesses. Another big drawback is the price of the commercial rental. Unless the shopkeeper owns the building, it can be prohibitive in the overhead. Lastly, government regulations have destroyed and consumed much of any profit our merchants may accrue.
George Murphy May 26, 2014 at 08:30 pm
I patronize many businesses just to try to support the numbers. But, I am only one person. NewRead More Jersey has seen the same demise with shopping malls. The only head-above-water tactic is to keep other attractions on the property (movie houses, restaurants and kiddie fun places, to name a few). This may help, but it doesn't look as if these shopping wonder worlds will ever return to the statuses of the 1970's. It really troubles me to see people not thriving, especially when they faithfully go out to work each day.

When out riding in my Stutz Bearcat, there is nothing I enjoy less than fussing with the long lines,Read More high prices, and mediocre food being peddled by that horrid place. I would much rather spend my hard-earned money at a truly local establishment, such as Poochie's where the girls are comely and the cheddar sharp, or Dengeo's where the ladies are sharp and the gyro sandwiches are saucy, or even Herm's palace of frankfurters where there may be no saucy or comely lasses, but there are tasty calories galore!
