We need to take a closer look at our healthcare facilities as well! Hospitals and nursing homes areRead More forced to destroy on a monthly basis hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prescription drugs! For one reason or another these drugs already paid for by patients or their insurance companies are not needed, and once opened cannot be returned to the pharmacy! These healthcare providers are often forced to flush / destroy - millions of dollars worth of drugs in Illinois alone! ************************************************* We need a program in which these hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of prescription drugs are collected - then provided to the third world countries who certainly need them to treat disease instead of disposing them!

For God sake - why do we continue to put innocent people in jail in this state? We need judges whoRead More will admonish police and prosecutors for illegal activities and their failure to allow ALL pertinent evidence to be presented at trial! We the people of Illinois and Will County can no longer afford to pay for jailing the innocent, and must demand that trials are based on proper, legal and factual evidence!

We would like to see a crackdown by Plainfield Police on uninsured drivers - especially those whoRead More continue to use their cell phones while driving in absolute disregard of the law!
Tim April 23, 2014 at 06:07 pm
We do basically agree, it is only a difference of degree. This particular situation only highlightsRead More the problems underneath, it is not by itself defining of it. And I know not every single success is published(because nobody wants to read about that), and only the most prominent events will get noticed. However, I do still believe that the way Plainfield is directing its resources is not in the best interests of the residents. Why has the PD not approached the village with any proposals to FIX the rail crossing on 126? It is only getting worse, and all they can be bothered to do about it is write tickets. It has been warned about for over a decade now. Honestly, I expect more from leadership than just doing the bare minimum. If they aren't going to do anything proactive, it's time to replace leadership with someone who can handle a growing community, and not one who just pushes the status quo, while being blind to the growing pains of the area. -I've seen how other towns do it, and that is what is so frustrating about what is happening here. I've seen other police departments initiate plans to improve safety by working with their village/county/whatever. They don't just sit on the side of a known dangerous area, and issue tickets. They work to mitigate the actual situation to improve the safety for everyone even when the police are not there. There is no cooperation like this between Plainfield agencies. They mostly seal themselves off in their own bubble, instead of working together in a way that identifies and RESOLVES problems cooperatively, that none of them can do on their own. Plainfield can be so much more than just 'getting by', if the leadership could just step outside of their own little mini-kingdoms.

Juts because an off duty officer carries a gun with him does not make him 'gun crazy'. Unlike dogRead More trainers or car dealers as mentioned by Vicky, the police often run into angry people in social situations or even in supermarkets that they have arrested. They have the legal right to carry an off duty weapon, and should for their own safety. If they saw a robbery happening, or an assault, etc. they would jump in and help. Doing so unarmed is crazy. And if someone talks about guns with other officers while enjoying some down time that does not make him crazy either. Police officers count on their weapons to keep them and the public safe. Most of the ones I know are interested in what the newest and best weapon is...even if for no other reason than the next bad guy may be carrying it.

BTW... I agree with many of the comments on mutual aid. It should be the exception, not the rule.Read More What happens when those other towns are too busy to come out on something really big and really important? I don't know that Plainfield is so much short handed as it is short sighted. Training seems like a better fix.

Did you see the Drew Peterson movie? It portrayed Hosey's office as a gleaming, modern andRead More bustling. As opposed to the stained drop-ceiling and general bleakness. Just let the Patch be the joke it always has been.

"Plainfield Sgt. Mike Fisher said he sent patrol officers to Henry's home in the 15400 block ofRead More Pratt Lane after reading the story on Oswego Patch." ...I would bet a lot of people will eventually be arrested after the police first read about the stories on Patch...
Ron Jidzny April 17, 2014 at 05:33 pm
Plainfield Sgt. Mike Fisher confirms that Patch is a 'legitimate media outlet.' Hopefully he isRead More recognized at a Village Board Meeting where he gets to 'shake' hands with the Trustees' and let them know how effective and 'legitimate' this media outlet is.

What is improper use of a turn signal?
MattB. April 14, 2014 at 12:54 pm
The law requires every driver to use their turn signal before turning or moving right or left on aRead More roadway. The law also requires that any signal of intention to turn right or left shall be given continuously during the last 100 feet before turning. (ie: when you are making a left or right turn you must turn into that lane a stay there for at least 100 feet) (Not turn from the left lane into the other right lane) Like so many do! A driver must use turn signals to indicate their intent to turn, change lanes or start from a parked position. You must not flash your turn signal on one side to indicate that your vehicle is parked or disabled. You must also not flash your turn signal as an indication to cars traveling behind you to pass your vehicle. Otherwise, you can be found guilty of improper use of turn signals.

I met Walter last year in Puerto Vallarta. He and Kim won a 3 night stay with Eric & Kathy fromRead More The Mix radio station. He was funny and well liked. I heard he was in Los Cabos this year again with the Eric & Kathy show. I wasn't able to go this year, but am sure he was just as fun this year. I was shocked when I realized who was driving the truck. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Karah-- I'm am so,so sorry for your loss. Your dad was THE NICEST, most sincere person I've everRead More met. I was his realtor and spent many hours with him. A pedophile sits in our jail, and feels the right to suit over some mayonnaise packet and what not?Read More Really? Has the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency been contacted?
Kathy April 8, 2014 at 05:21 pm
I do not think calling this scum bag an "alleged aspiring pedophile" is cute or funny. YouRead More can say that about an accused graffitier "aspiring artist" - but I think calling him "aspiring" when it comes to CHILDREN and sex crimes is awful. Bad writing Patch!
