So many deaths along this corridor in the past few weeks. I drive it several times a week andRead More lately it has been a white-knuckle experience. Everyone's in such a hurry. I'd rather be late than dead.

I wish Chicago problems would stay in Chicago. If these individuals want to live here then theyRead More should leave their issues behind them. Why should Oswego have to suffer this? They came here because Oswego is a nice place to live. But it will only stay a nice place if they leave their problems at the door.
Sean O'Gara July 22, 2014 at 09:02 pm
Law abiding citizens don't refuse to cooperate with the police. My hunch is, and I bet the copsRead More figure this too, is that the robbers were targeting a drug supply that they knew was kept at the house, which would explain why the "victims" don't want to cooperate with the police. I highly doubt the robbers did this just for phones and a car. And I am sure the "victims" know their robbers. And I am guessing drug sales paid for the house and Audi. Enjoy your neighbors Oswego!

Seems like pretty weak charges considering he KILLED 4 people! Wonder if he is even legal?
Kathryn Gassensmith July 22, 2014 at 04:19 pm
They need to have trucks in right hand lane like it used to be. They also need PROFESSIONAL truckRead More drivers and pay PROFESSIONAL truck drivers. $9.00 an hour forces long haul drivers to drive more than the allowable 8 hours a day. They need to bring back Union drivers making a living wage and make it more difficult to obtain a trucking license. Didn't we learn ANYTHING from George Ryan's gifting of trucking license?
Kathryn Gassensmith July 22, 2014 at 04:22 pm
2speed..that is absurd. Everyone is under a clock, but not everyone KILLS four people!
With the vehicles involved in the crash still in the background, Illinois State Police held a press conference Monday, raising the death toll to five from Monday's two crashes on I-55 moments apart.
amanda July 22, 2014 at 08:48 am
and the names have been released: Three women and one girl were killed in the crash. They have beenRead More identified as: Kimberly K. Britton, 43, of Urbana; Piper Britton, 11, of Urbana; Vicky L. Palacios, 54, of Coal City; and Ulrike P. Blopleh, 48, of Channahon.
PatchMaster July 22, 2014 at 12:37 pm
Last year when the construction in that area began and the crashes started adding up there was anRead More out cry about what to do about it. Well the state police and local and state legislators got together to try and find ways to reduce the amount of accidents in the area. Nice job guys-NOT. I know it is not solely the fault of local and state officials, blame must also go to those who drive recklessly. And by that I mean anything that distracts you from your PRIMARY job which is safely and legally operating your motor vehicle. Having higher speed limits is not the problem. Trucks ignoring the law that states their speed limit is 55mph is so widely ignored that they are a major contributor to the problem. Now I know there are people who will come on here and defend trucker drivers but who hit who here? In both crashes a truck was the initiator, need I say more? Regardless of what the state does there will always be stupid drivers, and as long as we have construction zones and stupid drivers we will have crashes and loss of life.
Kristine Neumann July 22, 2014 at 03:03 pm
Speed is the problem. I don't think anyone drives 55 on the expressways. Everyone is in a hurry,Read More for what I don't know. Just to save a few minutes?

Truth, the driver of that tractor trailer rig has only so far been charged with log bookRead More falsification. I had posted earlier that if what is alleged comes out to be fact, that guy needs to get a minimum of 25 years in the penitentiary. Well, I just heard on the six o'clock news that he is likely to be charged soon with vehicular homicide, which carries a maximum sentence of 28 years.
EAGLEYE July 22, 2014 at 10:22 pm
Ex-Jolietian, obviously the troopers cannot hammer them all, but they can and will crackdown on theRead More ones that break the law. They will do that for sure along with doing tough roadside safety inspections of their rigs. Any time there is an accident of this magnitude involving tractor trailer rigs, you will see stepped up police action on these rigs and their drivers. Don't forget also the fines in construction zones double and an accident involving a fatality let alone four victims would spell lots of years for the driver if convicted.

From what I've seen the worst truckers are the guys that handle shipping containers....they tend toRead More drive the oldest trucks...and guys that drive gravel/grain trucks. They get paid by the load, not by the mile or by the hour. More loads, more money.

The only thing a fire would have done is burn off any oils inside the wm dumpster, nothing they wantRead More to go to court over due to the cost of the dumpsters and the proof of existing to new damages. BUT, in new news, the Plainfield Park District is buying $600 garbage cans.
mike July 20, 2014 at 09:56 am
Curiosity and kids around 12yrs old is a real fine line between poor parenting and being a followerRead More with bad influences. WM needs to have the parents be responsible for there lack of discipline in the household, which is a direct reflection of how the kids behave outside the home. What if those dumpsters were up against a building of wood construction? If you don't send a very clear harsh message now, we will be seeing it on the news later. Case and point, "OUR LADY OF ANGELS FIRE", OR ANY FIRE RELATED TO JUVINILLE CURIOSITY IN THE PAST. I'm not talking about jail but the discipline for these acts is a little soft for their actions, Just saying.

It turns out he really has a lot of ideas, and likes to share them!

Very glad no one was hurt. And, Brian Watson, why don't you set a dumpster on fire in your drivewayRead More one night and then treat yourself to the easy and fund job that you imply putting it out safely is? Wait, it'd be more fun and no doubt easier for you if you let a friend do it as a surprise of when and where, let them set that fire as part of a series of them that you need to get to, and go to fight the fires not knowing if more are coming or if anyone is either in danger at each location or if someone is just looking to put YOU in danger. How about that? Then come back and tell us how much help and how many tools you need to get that done, 'kay?
