Jennie R Dicks, 90 years of Montgomery, IL died Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Lakewood Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Plainfield, IL. She was born April 7, 1923 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Phillip and Lenora nee Giacalone Vinci. She is survived by her husband Clayton (Whom she married on June 29, 1947 at Our Lady of Pompeii in Chicago, IL), her siblings Lydia (John) White of Romeoville, IL, Gloria (Larry) Wiercioch of Plainfield, IL, Charles (Linda) Dicks of Bolingbrook, IL, Richard (Shelly) Dicks of Crown Point, IN; eight grandchildren Katrina, Laura, Jennifer, Laura, Paul, Brian, Nicole and Joseph; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Palos native Kevin Sanders spent five years working with the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency.

Kevin Sanders dedicated his life to helping people and animals. “He died doing what he loved to do by serving and protecting others and will be forever remembered as a hero,” according to the obituary for Sanders, 33. A native of Palos Hills and former Plainfield resident, Sanders was among the first responders killed in an explosion as they battled a fire at fertilizer plant in West, Texas, near Waco on April 17. Evelyn G. Wallin, age 99 of Plainfield, IL passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. She was born on May 25, 1913 in Chicago, IL the daughter of Erin and Mabel (Larsen) Carlson. Evelyn was united in marriage to Mr. Charles Geistler, the father of her children until his passing in 1951. She was later united in marriage to Mr. Cecil Wallin and they spent many happy years together until his passing in 1964. Mrs. Wallin was a former member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chicago, IL. Evelyn attended Helmar Lutheran Church in Yorkville, IL and was also very active in the Plattville Lutheran Church in Plattville, IL. She enjoyed traveling with her family. Jack Heimerdinger, husband of Elizabeth Fenton and father of Christina, Craig, Amy and Peter, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013, after battling myelodysplastic syndrome. Jack was born on December 7, 1936 to Alice and Oscar Heimerdinger in Riverside, IL. He attended college in California, later graduating from Northwestern. He had a successful advertising career, beginning as a copy writer for Montgomery Wards, and working at Encyclopedia Britannica and Rand-McNally. Moving to New York in 1979, he worked as the marketing manager for Holt Rinehart Winston, and then became marketing director for newly established CBS Cable. Community mourns the loss of Linda Johnson.
The Plainfield School District Community is mourning the loss of a former District 202 Board of Education member. Linda Johnson, 47, of Plainfield, died March 14 after battling cancer for several years. Johnson was an active volunteer in District 202 and served on the school board from 2003 to 2007, according to Community Relations Director Tom Hernandez. The district paid homage to Johnson by hanging purple bunting at the district administration center and at Plainfield South High School, where her children went to school. Superintendent John Harper recalled Johnson, saying that during her service on the board, she “understood governance and could and did passionately disagree with administration on certain decisions, and yet respected …

Michael Assaf had been battling cancer and passed away on Jan. 27.
Michael V. Assaf, III lost his battle with cancer on Jan. 27. The 38-year-old Minooka Community High School math teacher and wrestling coach was the father of four children. Back in November, Patch wrote about a 5K that had been organized to raise money for Assaf's family. "We want to help raise money to alleviate the stress," Jill Nehring, Assaf's co-worker at the high school, said in the November 2012 story. "Anytime somebody is in need, we try to come up with anything we can to help them." Dave DiLorenzo, director of community relations at MCHS, said the school declined to comment on Assaf's passing.
