ComEd said more than 500 customers were affected by accident at Mill Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road.
Updated at 5:45 p.m. A semi-truck accident Wednesday afternoon led to power outages in Plainfield. Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said a semi struck some low-hanging telephone cables near Mill Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road before 4:30 p.m. “The semi pulled [the cables] so far that it hit the power lines,” causing sparking and burn marks to the side of the truck, Stratton said. “It’s a big mess out here,” he said, noting that power was out in the area of Mill Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road for a two- to three-block radius. Traffic signals were out at Route 59, Route 126 and Plainfield-Naperville Road. On Plainfield Patch’s Facebook page, a reader reported that power was also out at the Plainfield Public Library. Despite the cancellation of a special park district board meeting, demonstrators gathered Wednesday morning to sound off on the controversial hiring.
Carrying signs and chanting slogans, more than two dozen demonstrators showed up at the Plainfield Park District’s Recreation/Administration Center Wednesday morning to voice their anger at decisions made by the new park board majority. “Our goal is to make sure they show transparency,” said rally organizer Deb Bostjancic. The rally was held in opposition to the recent hiring of village trustee Garrett Peck as the new interim executive director, despite the fact that outgoing Executive Director Greg Bott had just six weeks left on his contract before his anticipated July 1 retirement date. Complicating matters even more, the previous park board in March voted unanimously to name former Superintendent of Planning Cameron Bettin as Bott’s …
Luckily, the Will County website with court information remains intact, according to Sun-Times Media reports.
The Will County Courts website is currently experiencing down time, following a recent cyber attack, Sun-Times Media reports. Unknown hackers infected the site with malware and additional coding last Friday, Courts Administrator Kurt Sangmeister told reporters. Fortunately, this particular site is separate from the court website site that contains information on Will County cases. It contains basic information such as parking info, judge profiles and driving directions. The website will come back online as soon as it’s bugs are fixed, Sangmeister said. One of the most popular Chicago Bears is now calling it quits, according to CBS Chicago.
Chicago Bears veteran of 13 years Brian Urlacher officially retired Wednesday morning, according to CBS Chicago. The 34-year-old linebacker says he has no regrets ending a professional career playing exclusively for the Chicago Bears. “Although I could continue playing, I’m not sure I would bring a level of performance or passion that’s up to my standards,” Urlacher told CBS news. When considering this, along with the fact that I could retire after a 13 year career wearing only one jersey for such a storied franchise, my decision became pretty clear.” Urlacher recently made news in March when he couldn’t strike a new contract deal with the Bears—claiming the one-year $2 million offer was “a slap in the face.”
Joliet police say Marco Lujano, who now lives in Bolingbrook, was downloading and sharing photos and videos featuring children.
A man who allegedly used his computer to download and exchange pornographic videos and photos of children was arrested Monday, Joliet police said. Marco Lujano, 25, of 108 Delmar Drive, Bolingbrook, was booked on three counts of aggravated child pornography and one count of child pornograpy stemming from an investigation that began with information obtained by the Will County State's Attorney's Office, Joliet Lt. Brian Dupuis said. Evidence showed that Lujano was using a computer at his then-home in the 7700 block of Boxwood Lane to access photos and videos featuring underage children and to share files with others, Dupuis said. Officers obtained a search warrant for Lujano's home only to learn he had moved to Bolingbrook, he said. They …

Gas prices were predicted to be lower this summer compared to the past three years, but that won't translate into savings at the pump this Memorial Day weekend, experts said. "Motorists this year are facing rising gas prices heading into the Memorial Day holiday," said Michael Green, a AAA spokesman, adding that Memorial Day 2013 would probably be the most expensive since 2011. In past years, prices have declined heading into early summer as oil refineries produced more gasoline to meet expected summer driving demand. This year, though, Midwest refineries haven't been able to…
Who’s NOT planning a BBQ this weekend? If the weather holds and you’ve got propane or charcoal, chances are you’re grilling something with your friends and family. Here, new ideas for keeping your costs down. Sponsored by Home Depot.
Here at Patch, we like to be thrifty, so we talked to two barbeque experts and uncovered some really good ideas to help you save money on your next outdoor party. 1. Start with a marinade. This means planning ahead -- say, Friday. But it’s worth it, says Rick Browne, host of Barbeque America on PBS, because you can pass up that well-marbled ribeye steak and buy a less tender and less expensive choice to grill like a flank steak or chuck steak. Just marinate it or brine for one or two days and then cook long and slow on the barbeque grill to break down tissues but maintain moisture. “You need to include an acid in the marinade, perhaps juice, vinegar or soy sauce, but avoid cola which is so acidic it can turn meat into a soggy mess.” Try …

A mandatory meeting for parents of interested players is Thursday at Plainfield East High School.
A Plainfield mom is hoping to generate interest in girls lacrosse at District 202 high schools. Bonnie Hughes is launching Cheetah Lacrosse, a club team open to girls at all four District 202 high schools. After moving to Plainfield from Naperville, Bonnie Hughes said her daughter, Chasia, was dismayed to learn that District 202 has no lacrosse program. “She’s been playing since fourth grade,” Hughes said. “She’s actually a coach now with the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association.” After seeing her daughter miss out on the sport as a student at John F. Kennedy Middle School, Hughes is working to bring lacrosse to District 202. “Lacrosse is an emerging sport in the state of Illinois,” Hughes said, explaining that while several area districts …
