Plainfield Police Blotter: Rifle, Ammo Stolen During Break-In; House Ransacked

Arrests and incidents reported by Plainfield police, other agencies, Dec. 15-Jan. 3.

Edward A. Radziewicz, 17, of the 24000 block of Pear Tree Circle, Plainfield, was arrested by Will County Sheriff's police and booked into the Will County jail on a charge of residential burglary, according to police. Alexis Badillo, 18, of the 13000 block of Skyline Drive, Plainfield, was arrested by Plainfield police at 4:08 p.m. at 135th Street and Route 30 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said. Someone entered a home in the 13000 block of Jane Circle and stole an AR-15 rifle with ammunition, a laptop, an Xbox gaming system and a PlayStation III gaming system, according to police. Police Want to Install Gun Safes, Store Rifles at Plainfield High Schools

Plainfield police brought the request to the District 202 school board, saying a rifle would better equip school resource officers to handle a Columbine-style activer shooter scenario.

District 202 officials are considering a proposal from the Plainfield Police Department to buy and install gun safes at Plainfield high schools in the event there is an active shooter in the building. The board will continue to review the proposal next month, but will first work with its legal department on the language for the possible agreement. Under the proposal brought forth by Plainfield Police Chief John Konopek, a secure gun safe would be installed in the office of the on-campus school resource officer, allowing the officer quick access to his or her AR-15 rifle in case there is a shooter in the building. Ridiculous "logical extensions" don't help. Rifles in squads are a fine idea. That does not negate the desireability of having the ON-SITE SRO have access to one. This is a response which came out of analysis of Columbine and Active Shooter situations. But then I'm sure you know a lot more than all those experts.   more ›
