Plainfield's Persons Among Top 10 Public Works Leaders in U.S.

Plainfield Public Works Director Allen Persons received the national honor from the Illinois Public Works Association.

A village employee has been named one of the 2013 Top Ten Public Works Leaders in the country by the American Public Works Association (APWA).  Plainfield Public Works Director Allen Persons last week learned he'd been chosen from among a pool of candidates nominated by municipalities across the country. "It rare that a population as small as ours is recognized" by the nationwide organization, Mayor Mike Collins said, adding this is the third time the village has nominated Persons for the honor. The award was created in 1960 and has a "long and distinguished history of recognizing exceptional candidates," APWA President Elizabeth Treadway said in a letter to Persons. " ... Renwick Road Bridge Wins Award

The Plainfield Township highway department, engineers, contractor honored on Jan. 9.

It was a project more than two decades and $7.4 million in the making — but in October 2012, the Plainfield Township highway department unveiled the new, two-lane Renwick Road bridge. Now, the structure, which replaced a more than century-old bridge, is receiving accolades. Earlier this month, the project received a Project of the Year Award from the southwest branch of the Chicago Metro chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). Township highway department staffer Dick Anderson said the bridge was among 19 projects considered for the transportation award in the $5 to $25 million category.
