SA Glasgow Wins Prestigious Crime Fighting Award

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow has been named the winner of the Mitchell A. Mars Prosecutorial Excellence Award.

Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow has won the Mitchell A. Mars Prosecutorial Excellence Award for his outstanding effort in the prosecution of former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson in the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, the Chicago Crime Commission announced Wednesday. Glasgow will be honored at the Stars of Distinction 2012 awards dinner on Nov. 7. “We are pleased to recognize the efforts of Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow by honoring him with the Chicago Crime Commission’s Mitchell A. Mars Prosecutorial Excellence Award,” said J.R. Native Melissa McCarthy Wins Emmy, Includes Plainfield Shoutout in Speech

Plainfield native Melissa McCarthy included a hometown shoutout in her Emmys acceptance speech Sunday night after winning best lead actress in a comedy series for Mike & Molly. "I'm from Plainfield, Illinois, and I'm standing here and it's kind of amazing," she said during the Sunday night awards ceremony. McCarthy, a Plainfield native who has starred in a series of movies and television shows, landed her biggest role to date with last fall's debut of the CBS comedy, Mike & Molly. She learned of her Emmy nod while announcing the list of award nominees in July. Juanita Niehus, Inspirational Teacher and Longtime Volunteer, Dead at 105

A prestigious award named for Juanita and Walter Niehus has been presented annually to a Plainfield School District 202 staff member since 1986.

Juanita Niehus, an influential teacher, wife of a former Plainfield school superintendent and a devoted volunteer for many Plainfield groups, has died at age 105. Mrs. Niehus had been living at the Colonnades in Charlottesville, Va., where she moved in 2005 to be closer to her daughter. It is where she passed away on Sunday. But for more than 50 years, Plainfield schools and local causes were her life, and Plainfield School District 202 continues to honor her and her husband with the annual Walter G. and Juanita F. Niehus Award, presented to a staff member who shows extraordinary commitment to the district’s students. It was established in 1986, the year after Walter Niehus died. Contest organizer Matthew Starr said he's been disappointed so far in the number of entries; the winner will be awarded a $100 prize.

Time is running out, kids. But you still you have the weekend to work on you township anthem composition.  The field is wide open. With the deadline looming Monday, Plainfield Township Youth Committee Chairman Matthew Starr says he is “disappointed” with response the township has received to its call to compose a township tune.  In November, the township announced it would award a $100 prize to the Plainfield sixth- through eighth-grade student whose winning original melody and lyrics was chosen to go down in history as the Plainfield Township song.  “It’s just not getting as much traction as we would have liked,” Starr said at this month’s township board meeting.  Though some township trustees suggested opening the competition to high …
