Beef -- It's What's for Christmas Dinner, Butchers Say

People still like turkey and ham, but beef is what's selling this year, local butchers say.

No longer is ham hogging Plainfield Christmas dinner platters.  Local diners are trending toward beefed-up holiday entrées, Plainfield butchers say.  By Christmas, turkey has been done to death, says Cary Miller, owner of Miller's Old Fashioned Butcher Shop in downtown Plainfield. And while he does sell a duck or two, the goose is cooked. Besides, at $8 per pound, it's too expensive this year.  "For the price of a goose you can get a beef roast," Miller says. Based on what he's been selling, the most popular choices go in this order: 1. Prime rib 2. Beef tenderloin 3. Crown pork 4. Ham 5. Turkey  "This is the number one holiday of the year," Miller says.
